Early Social Security

I just retired, opted for early Social Security, and started an S corporation for my sales business to shift income. Does my business have to produce income for me to claim deductions? I have made sales calls; however, I have been spending most of my time learning about the industry and how to be a good salesperson. I have not concentrated on the making money part yet. (H.
